Background
The Vijayawada Thermal Power Station (IGCC) is a proposed 182 megawatt coal-fired plant expansion by Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation, at the site of the existing 1760 MW Vijayawada Thermal Power Station. The plant will use Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle technology. It is proposed that the station be commissioned by 2014. APGENCO notes that it has sought equity support from the government of Andhra Pradesh and that "approval is awaited."[1]
The project is being developed with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), which describes itself as "the first and foremost organization to develop IGCC in India."[2]
Note: The Vijayawada Thermal Power Station is also know as the Dr. Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station, or Dr. NTTPS.
