Background
The Vijayawada Thermal Power Station (IGCC) is a proposed 182 megawatt coal-fired plant expansion by Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation, at the site of the existing 1760 MW Vijayawada Thermal Power Station. The plant will use Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle technology. In 2011 APGENCO noted that it had sought equity support from the government of Andhra Pradesh and that "approval is awaited." It was proposed that the station be commissioned by 2014.[1]
The project would be developed with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), which describes itself as "the first and foremost organization to develop IGCC in India."[2]
The project is not included on APGENCO's 2014 list of existing and upcoming thermal projects,[3] and appears to have been abandoned.
