Location
The map below shows the village of Rampur, but not the exact location of the project:
Background
The power station was planned by Finolex for Rampur, in the Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra.[1] Maharashtra is among India’s most industrialized states, and representatives say they are seeking to make the state an "attractive investment destination" for manufacturers to maintain its primacy in the sector.[2]
In 2008, news items reported that Finolex Cables planned to set up a 1000 MW coal plant on land held by its sister company, Finolex Industries. The project would come on the heels of a 43 MW captive coal plant at Finolex's PVC manufacturing plant in Ranagiri. Under the plan for the 1000 MW plant, Finolex would convert its fair-weather port into an all-season port, allowing coal to be imported from Indonesia.[3]
In 2011, news reports stated that Finolex was in talks with Chinese and Indian companies to sell its stake in the project.[4] In the absence of subsequent reports on the project, it appears to have been abandoned.
