{{#badges:CoalSwarm|Navbar-Namibiacoal}} The Okakarara power station is a proposed 300-megawatt (MW) coal-fired plant in Namibia.

Location

The map below shows the location of Okakarara, but not the exact location of the power station.

Background

In December 2013 Utico Middle East signed a memorandum of understanding with the Namibia government for construction of a US$300 million coal-fired power plant in the Okakarara Governorate. The project involves the initial construction of a 150 MW facility, followed by expansion to increase production to 300MW.[1]

The agreement states the Namibian government will provide the coal that will fuel the plant to Utico Middle East, with all power generated in the plant to be sold to Namibia Power Corporation (NAM Power), the government-run power utilities company. In addition to the development of the power plant, Utico will also set up a transmission network to distribute the power across the country.[1]

With no developments on the project since its 2013 announcement, it appears to be abandoned.
