Thomas R. Saving is an economics professor and the Director of the Private Enterprise Research Center at Texas A&M University. He is also a senior fellow at the National Center for Policy Analysis, a think tank that receives funding from corporations and right-wing foundations.
In 2000, Saving was appointed by George W. Bush as a Public Trustee of the Social Security and Medicare Trust Funds. He was named to the President’s Commission to Strengthen Social Security in 2001.[1]
Saving serves on the national advisory board of For Our Grandchildren, a group advocating Social Security privatization. For Our Grandchildren is a project of the anti-welfare American Institute for Full Employment and is a member of the business-supported Coalition for the Modernization and Protection of America's Social Security.
In February 2005, the Houston Chronicle reported that Saving joined Progress for America, a well funded right-wing organization with close ties to the White House, to serve as an advisor and spokesman on their campaign to promote Bush's Social Security plan.[2]
