Background

Egypt is considering a coal-fired power generation plant in Safaga, a town located on the coast of Red Sea. The proposed power station's capacity would be over 1,950MW and plans are to import part of the coal required at the plant from abroad, according to the Ministry of Electricity and Energy. The power plant is planned to come on line by 2020.
