{{#badges: CoalSwarm|Navbar-Indiacoal}} Sembcorp Gayatri Power Complex, previously known as Bander power station, is a 2,640-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power station under development in Andhra Pradesh, India.

The complex consists of two coal-fired power stations of 1,320 MW each: Thermal Powertech Corporation India and Sembcorp Gayatri Power Limited.

Location

The map below shows Painampuram village, the approximate location where the plant would be built.

Background

Bander power station was a proposed coal-fired power station in Andhra Pradesh, to be developed in three phases by Thermal Powertech Corporation. Phase I (2 units of 660 MW) and II (one unit of 660 MW) received an environmental permit in 2009,[1] and Phase III (one unit of 660 MW) a terms of reference in 2010 for applying for one.[2]

Thermal Powertech Corporation later became known as Sembcorp and split the three phases into two coal plants of 1,320 MW each: Thermal Powertech Corporation India and Sembcorp Gayatri Power Limited, which together make up the 2,640 MW Sembcorp Gayatri Power Complex.[3]

Unit 1 of Thermal Powertech Corporation India went into commercial operation in April 2015, and unit 2 in September 2015.[4][5]

Sembcorp Gayatri Power Limited is planned for completion by the end of 2016.[6]

Coal Source

Imported coal will be transported by ship to Krishnapatnam Port. Indigenous coal will be brought by rail from Ib Valley/Talcher to Paradip/ Dhamra Port and then transported by sea to Krishnapatnam Port.[7]
