Background

The project is sponsored by KVK Energy & Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., part of KVK Power & Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. A memorandum of understanding was signed with the government of Madhya Pradesh in October 2008 for developing a 1,050MW coal-based power project, with a proposal to increase capacity to 1320MW. About 1,000 acres of land have been identified and an application made for allotment of land. The Water Resources Department of Madhya Pradesh allocated 32 million cubic meter p.a. of water for the project in 2009.

According to the KFK Energy website in 2014, an application for coal linkage for 1,050 MW has been made, and a consultant appointed for preparing the draft EIA report and obtaining a terms of reference from the India Ministry.

The project received a terms of reference for a 1320 MW plant in October 2010, but as of March 2015 has yet to receive environmental clearance. The project appears to be deferred or abandoned.
