Background on Plant

The two existing coal-fired units of Beihai Bebuwan power station, totaling 640 MW, were brought online between 2004 and 2005.[1] The plant is owned by SDIC (55%), Guangxi Investment Group (27%), and National Energy Investment Group (18%).[2]

Ownership

The plant was owned by SDIC (55%), Guangxi Investment Group (27%), and National Energy Investment Group (18%). In November 2019, SDIC sold its 55% share to Guangxi Investment Group as part of SDIC's exit from coal, leaving the ownership shares as Guangxi Investment Group (82%) and National Energy Investment Group (18%).[3]

Description of Expansion

The owners are currently planning to build two additional coal-fired units at this plant, with a total planned capacity of 1,320 MW.[4][5][6][7]

However, there have been no developments on the units since 2012, and they appear to be abandoned.

2016: Nationwide Restrictions Imposed on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity

Due to new restrictions announced during 2016 by the National Energy Administration and the National Development and Reform Commission, further capacity expansions at this location appear to be on hold or cancelled. For details, see China's 2016 Restrictions on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity.
