Background
In an interview with NDTV, Ispat Industries senior executive Atulya Mittal said that given the power shortage in the country, the company had decided to fast-track the project and was looking for a strategic partner. According to Mittal, the company still had the original coal linkage.[1]
According to a 2010 report in the Times of India, Ispat Group purchased 530 hectares of land after keeping the plans on hold since the 1990s.[2] A report in the Financial Express placed the size of the project at 2000 MW.[3]
As of 2014 the project has not received environmental clearance, and may have been cancelled.
