Background

The project is sponsored by Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company (CSPGCL), a publicly-owned utility formed in 2009 following the restructuring of the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board. CSPGCL would build the power station in the Korba district of Chhattisgarh. In October 2010 CSPGCL called for tenders for a detailed project report on the proposal.

In 2013 the India Coal Ministry allotted Baisi coal block in India with an estimated reserve of 150 million tonnes for the proposed Bunji Bundeli Thermal Power Project and the 1,000 MW Korba South Thermal Power Project.

However, there have been no developments on the project since August 2013, and it appears to be abandoned.
