DonorsChoose is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit founded by Charles Best "in the spring of 2000 at Wings Academy, an alternative public high school in the Bronx where he taught social studies for five years." [1]
On the DonorsChoose web site, "teachers submit project proposals for materials or experiences their students need to learn. These ideas become classroom reality when concerned individuals, whom we call Citizen Philanthropists, choose projects to fund." [2]
