Fang Lizhi is on the advisory board for Beijing Spring magazine, a member of the International Council of Advisors for the International Campaign for Tibet, and in at least 1995 was a board member of Human Rights in China.
Winner of the 1989 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award and recipient of the Heinz R. Pagels Human Rights of Scientists Award.
In 2000, was a member of the Human Rights Watch Academic Freedom Committee.
