The Centre "was established in 1985, and is a member of the International Rights' Committee in Geneva. The Centre documented human rights violations during the Intifada and, with the establishment of the Palestinian Authority, is working to strengthen the rule of law and democracy." [1]
"The geographical scope of al-Haq's activities has had to expand during the uprising as well. Prior to 1988, it was absent from the Gaza Strip because an organization it helped found, the Gaza Centre for Rights and Law (GCRL), was the International Commission of Jurists' affiliate for that area." Funding
They have received NED funding in 2001 to "train 15 trainers and 180 young men and women on the rule of law, concepts and practices of human rights and democracy, and the role of civil society in a democracy." Then in 2003 they received a further NED grant to "implement five 35-hour training courses on international and local applications of human rights, rule of law, and freedom of the press for a total of 75 Palestinian journalists in Gaza and to create an Arabic legal-reference manual for journalists." [2]
In 1993 the Gaza Centre for Rights and Law received a grant from Rights and Democracy.
