The Human and Enviromental Risk Assessment project or HERA is a European chemical industry-funded "voluntary initiative" created in 1999. The project is an attempt to influence European Union regulation of the chemical industry, specifically concerning household cleaning products. As an Industry-funded organization, HERA lobbying activities will tend to oppose public health intiatives and Precautionary principle-type regulation.

Project sponsors

  • A.I.S.E. (Association Internationale de la Savonnerie, de la Détergence et des Produits d'Entretien) represents European manufacturers of household cleaning products and is based in Brussels, Belgium. [1]
  • "Cefic (www.cefic.org), the European Chemical Industry Council, is the Brussels-based organisation representing national chemical federations, chemical companies and chemical sector groups of Europe. All together, Cefic represents, directly or indirectly about 30 000 large, medium and small chemical companies, which employ about 2 million people and account for more than 30 % of world-wide chemical production."[2]
