Huaneng Laiwu power station (华能莱芜电厂) is a 2,660-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Shandong Province, China.

Location

The photo below shows the two operating units on the left and at newer units, including four cooling towers, on the right. The plant is in Laicheng District, Laiwu Prefecture, Shandong Province.

Background on Plant

The two existing coal-fired units of Huaneng Laiwu power station, totaling 660 MW, were brought online in 2009. The plant's first three units have been retired. The plant is majority-owned by China Huaneng.

Description of Expansion

Huaneng is currently building two additional coal-fired units at this plant, units 6-7, with a total planned capacity of 2,000 MW. The construction contract was awarded in 2013.

Unit 6 was commissioned in December 2015. Unit 7 was commissioned in November 2016.
