Landrum R. Bolling
Landrum R. Bolling "a longtime senior advisor to Mercy Corps, has received the 2005 James L. Fisher Award for Distinguished Service to Education by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
"Bolling worked as a foreign correspondent during World War II and has remained very active in international affairs ever since. Trained as a political scientist, Bolling served as president of Earlham College in Indiana from 1958 to 1973, he devoted particular attention to strengthening the school\'s interdisciplinary and international studies. He has been recognized in the past for his lifelong efforts to build peace throughout the world, accepting the National Peace Foundation\'s \"Peacemaker/Peace Builder\" award in 2000.
"Dr. Bolling has served as a senior advisor to Mercy Corps for much of the organization\'s history. He currently works out of the agency\'s Washington, DC office advising Mercy Corps on matters of policy and program development and serves as president of Mercy Corps/Pax World Service.
""He has taught the world new solutions for old problems that go beyond the confines of traditional hierarchies, official positions, and cumbersome bureaucracies,\" said Mercy Corps CEO Neal Keny-Guyer.
"The annual CASE award for distinguished service to education (renamed in 1986 for the organization’s second president) recognizes “individuals, organizations, foundations, corporations or publications for their extraordinary service to education of national and/or international significance, beyond service to a single institution or state.” Bolling, 91, accepted the award on July 16 at the organization\'s yearly international assembly in Miami, Fla.

Hesburgh, former head of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching Ernest Boyer, the United Negro College Fund, the Lilly Endowment, the Ford Foundation and The New York Times."
