Background on Plant

Vainateya Power received a terms of reference (ToR) toward an environmental permit for a proposed 2,640 MW (4 x 660 MW) coal-fired power station from the India government in 2010. In 2011 Vainateya Power applied for credits under the UN Clean Development Mechanism for Stage I of the project (2 x 660 MW) due to its use of supercritical technology; only Stage I was mentioned.

In October 2012 Vainateya Power applied for an extension of the ToR for the 4x660 MW project.

As of May 2016 the project has yet to receive any more environmental permits, and appears to be deferred or abandoned.
