Background on Plant

Vainateya Power received a terms of reference (ToR) toward an environmental permit for a proposed 2,640 MW (4 x 660 MW) coal-fired power station from the India government in 2010.[1] In 2011 Vainateya Power applied for credits under the UN Clean Development Mechanism for Stage I of the project (2 x 660 MW) due to its use of supercritical technology; only Stage I was mentioned.[2]

In October 2012 Vainateya Power applied for an extension of the ToR for the 4x660 MW project.[3]

As of May 2016 the project has yet to receive any more environmental permits, and appears to be deferred or abandoned.
