"Ambassador Lyman is a retired Foreign Service officer who currently is the Ralph Bunch Senior Fellow for Africa Policy Studies with the Council on Foreign Relations. Prior to this he served as Director of the Global Interdependence Project at The Aspen Institute. He was Ambassador to South Africa during the transition to democracy, Ambassador to Nigeria, Assistant Secretary for International Organization Affairs and Director of the Refugee Programs Bureau, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs. He earned a Ph.D. from Harvard University and resides in Washington, DC. He has been a member of the Board of Trustees of The Fund for Peace since February 2000." [2]
