This is one of the boundary points for the plant location as stated by JSW in the Executive Summary for the Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed plant.[1]

Background

The station is to be built near Kukurda, Nawapara, Dumarpalli, Chhuhipali, and Salheona villages of Raigarh Tehsil, Raigarh District Chhattisgarh, India.[2] JSW refers to a 1320MW project being proposed near Raipur, which is approximately 200 kilometres south west of Raigarh as well as another 100MW project at an unspecified location in Chhattisgarh.[3]

In a January 2012 presentation to investors, JSW Energy stated that the project, comprising two 660MW supercritical plants, was proposed to be based on domestic coal. However, the company states that at present it has an 11% interest in coal block jointly allocated but that it has applied for "additional coal linkage" to ensure adequate supplies for the plant. JSW also states that it has been allocated 35 million cubic metres of water a year from the Mahanadi River. However, as yet the company does not have clearance for the project from the Ministry of Environment and Forests. The company states that "The company states that land acquisition for the project is in "progress satisfactorily" and that it has entered into a power purchase agreement with the Government of Chhattisgarh for 35% of the power from the plant.[4]

The project's March 7, 2012 Environmental clearance permit states that the power station will use imported coal from Indonesia until domestic coal sources are available.[5]

The project is listed in a 2014 JSW Director's report, but does not give a timeline for completion. The plant is only described as permitted.[6]

As of September 2016 there are no reports the project has begun construction, and plans appear to be deferred or abandoned.
