Roger Neil Beachy

Roger Neil Beachy was the founding president of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, an agricultural biotechnology research organization funded by Monsanto and the Danforth Foundation.[1] He was also appointed by President Barack Obama as the first Director of the USDA's National Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA).[2] Beachy resigned from his role at NIFA in May 2011, returning to St. Louis, where he continued his research at the Danforth Center and taught as a Professor of Biology at Washington University in St. Louis.[3][4]
- "As founding president of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, he was responsible for setting the scientific mission of the Center. Beachy is recognized for his work in molecular virology, gene expression and for development of virus-resistant transgenic plants. Beachy is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and Science Academy, among others, and a recipient of the prestigious Wolf Prize in Agriculture."[5]
