Location
The map below shows the location of the plant, near the border with Beijing, at Yanjiao town, Sanhe City, Langfang Prefecture, Hebei Province.
Background on Plant
Sanhe Yanjiao power station is a four-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 1,300 MW. The plant was completed between 1999 and 2007, and was originally owned by Shenhua and CLP Group.[1] The plant is also co-generating, supplying heat in winter to both Tongzhou District of Beijing and the city of Sanhe. [2]
Proposed expansion
Shenhua Group and CLP Group have proposed a 2 x 350 MW expansion (Units 5-6) of the plant. In March 2015 Hebei Province approved for the plant to begin the environmental clearance process.[3]
The EIA report was accepted by the Environmental Protection Department of Hebei Province in September 2016.[4]
Unit 5 was permitted by the Hebei Provincial Development and Reform Commission in December 2016.[5][6]
The EIA report of Unit 5 was approved by the Environmental Protection Department of Hebei Province in March 2017.[7]
With no developments on unit 6 since 2016, it appears to be shelved.
Ownership
On August 28, 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer.[8][9] The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.[10]
