Sipat power station

{{#badges: CoalSwarm|Navbar-Indiacoal}}The Sipat power station is a 2,320-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power station in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh state which is owned and operated by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).

An additional 800 MW is proposed.

In the photograph below, the two 500 MW units known as "Sipat I" are on the left, and the three 660 MW units known as "Sipat II" are on the right.

Stage I: Background

The Sipat power station currently comprises four generating units: two 500 MW units commissioned in May 2007 and August 2008 and three 660MW units commissioned respectively in June 2011, December 2011, and June 2012. The third unit was commissioned on June 2, 2012.

The odd naming of the power station and the stages of its development can be a source of confusion. Units 4 and 5 are the oldest 500MW generating sets and are occasionally referred to as the "Sipat II power station". The most recently commissioned 660MW units, referred to as Units 1, 2, and 3 are sometimes referred to as the "Sipat I power station".

The two 500MW units were built with financial support from international financial agencies.

Unit 6 expansion

On May 3, 2019, NTPC received a terms of reference toward an additional 800 MW ultra-supercritical unit.
