At the end of October 2012 the Department of Energy and Climate Change announced that the project had been short-listed as one of four bidders "for the next phase of the UK’s £1bn Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) competition."<ref>Department of Energy and Climate Change, [http://www.decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/news/pn12_136/pn12_136.aspx "Short list for UK’s £1bn CCS competition announced"], Media Release, October 30, 2012.</ref>
In March 2013 the Project was announced as one of two reserve projects for the UK Government CCS commercialisation commercialization program.
