In February 2010, it was reported that construction sponsor [[GMR Group]] would begin construction on the station<ref>[http://bit.ly/ABjb6E "GMR Chhattisgarh Power Project,"] GMR Energy, accessed February 2012</ref> in the following months, with the two units commissioned within 45 months and 50 months respectively, around 2014.<ref name=GMR>GMR Group, [http://www.gmrgroup.in/Energy/GMR_Chhattisgarh_Power_Project.html "GMR Chhattisgarh Power Project"], GMR Group website, accessed November 2011.</ref><ref>[http://bit.ly/zg2G88 "Work to begin by March on GMR's Chhattisgarh project,"] ConstructionUpdate.com, February 2010</ref> To comply with requirements that the project contribute in the development of the neighboring villages and supply potable drinking water to nearby villages and schools, the company reported that it had undertaken such activities in Raikheda, Gaitra, and Chicholi in 2009 and planned to start working with village Mura on the southeastern boundary of the proposed plant in April 2012. The company also said that it was working on socio-economic development with GMR Varalakshmi Foundation "in consultation with communities and their representatives," identifying the "poorest of the poor families" in order to undertake special interventions.<ref name=comp/>
