Background on Plant
Suzhou Huiyuan power station was founded in 1958 with the name of Sudong power station. The name changed to Anhui Huiyuan cogen power company in 1999, and changed the name to Guodian Suzhou cogen power company in 2008 after China Guodian became its owner. [1]
Units 1&2 with total capacity of 40MW were retired in 2008. Units 3&4 have a total capacity of 270 MW.
Unit 3 was retired in 2012, when Suzhou-2 power station came online. Unit 4 is still operating.[2][3]
Unit 4 was retired in June 2017.[4][5]

Two 350 MW supercritical units were added to the power station in 2012.[6][7]
Ownership
On August 28, 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer.[8][9] The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.[10]
