"Remember the shock, the horror, the outrage, that swept America when this picture became public? Remember the politically irresistible outcry for the punishment of those who strapped this blindfolded, gunshot prisoner to a canvas stretcher and left him on the floor of an unheated steel cargo container in December?

"Don't remember any of those things? Neither do I. That we didn't care then makes us all complicit in what has happened since to hundreds of our country's prisoners, held in secret cages all over the world. We also serve who only stand and wait, which we have been doing with dull indifference for some time now."
