Talk:Alexander A. Karsner

This is a curious nomination. None of the information on Alexander A. Karsner adds up to qualifications for Assistant Secretary of Energy (Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy), which I guess is the point ... again!

Compare Karsner's credentials to those of his predecessor, David K. Garman. A real disconnect here.

  • The search for "Alexander A. Karsner" resulted in one item.
  • "Alexander Karsner" resulted in very little.
  • "Alex Karsner" = 0.
  • Then discovered "Andy Karsner", which basically found a pro-Bush/Cheney anti-Kerry opinion letter on alternative energy, particularly wind turbines.

Otherwise, on Karsner himself, found scant.

Then tried other "leads" mentioned in the nomination:

  • The Enercorp, LLC site provides almost no information at all.
  • "Wartsila Power Development", etc., produces only 31 items in the Yahoo search. In 1997, it appears to have been based in Hong Kong.
  • The search for "Moses Cheng Mo-Chi" brought very little.
  • "Tondu Energy Systems" found 35 entries but little info.

Google search found:

"Enercorp is a project development company based in Casablanca, Morocco, that specializes in renewable energy. Morocco is as beautiful, exotic, and hospitable as you might imagine; Enercorp is a cutting-edge, fast-paced firm even by American standards. It's an entrepreneurial company with about a dozen employees and abundant opportunity to take on responsibility. Previous interns (Sue Wang, Ajeet Pai now at McKinsey, Tom Miller now at BP, and Prakash V.) have been able to sit in on top-level strategy meetings, make powerful connections, and do interesting and challenging work. Last summer alone, interns worked with colleagues and contacts from Denmark, France, Morocco, Sweden, Japan, Spain, Algeria, and America. The founder and president is Andy Karsner, a Rice alum and former S.A. President who has been an entrepreneur most of his life. Among other things, he has started the Silver Saver Card at Rice, led a high-powered political career in Hong Kong to facilitate changeover in 1997, built a $100 million power plant in Pakistan, and traveled the world during a two-year honeymoon. ... Please note that French is NOT required for the internship in Morocco. Enercorp is a English-speaking office, and many Moroccans are fabulously trilingual. .."
  • Will Rice College, Houston, TX: posting: "Alexander 'Andy' Karsner karsner AT enercorp.us 1989 ... Maria and I (and Baby Caroline) have just settled in 'Old Town', Alexandria, Virginia, after 12 years overseas. Please let us know when you come to DC."
