Talk:Bush regime
the "affirmations of INSIDERS" should be those for whom allegations of political bias cannot be reasonably levelled. thus, a subgroup of "see also" in order to not disrupt a list of strictly Bush insiders.
- Michael Beschloss, "The Books: The Kiss-and-Tell Club. Sometimes they avenge. Sometimes they expose. Sometimes, they even sell. The political memoir, through the ages," Newsweek, April 5, 2004 (Edition).
- Jonathan Darman, "The Tell-All Tradition," Newsweek, April 5, 2004 (Edition): "Richard Clarke's new book is part of a long history of kiss-and-tell White House memoirs."
re: Affirmations:
We also know that a number of people working for the FBI and other agencies of our government have blown the whistle about both 9-11 and Iraq War issues and reported that their work was either ignored, not passed on or was simply discounted as not being important. Let me rattle off a few names for you here: [1]
- FBI Agents Colleen Rowley, Robert Wright, John Vincent and Kenneth Williams
- Defense Intelligence Agency Analyst Julie Sirrs
- Bush Aministration Intelligence experts Richard Clarke, Rand Beers, Gregory Thielman and Paul Redmond
- Former Nixon Political Strategist Kevin Phillips
- Former Army chief of staff General Eric Shinseki
- UN Weapons Inspectors Hans Blix, Richard Butler, Scott Ritter and David Kay
- Retired CIA Analysts: Larry Johnson
- VIPS: Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity
- From Great Britain:
- Former British Foreign Secretary under Tony Blair, Robin Cook
- Former member of Prime Minister Tony Blair's Cabinet, Clare Short
- Former Environmental Minister under Tony Blair, Michael Meacher MP
unverified:
- Bernard Weiner, "Horrid Thoughts About Horrid Leaders," The Crisis Papers, May 4, 2004.
Pending Defector category:
- Wyl S. Hylton, "Casualty of War. Four years into an embattled Bush administration, Colin Powell is hard at work at something he's never had to worry about before: salvaging his legacy," GQ.com. ("Casualty of War," will be available in the June 2004 issue of GQ, on newsstands in New York and Los Angeles May 18, and nationwide May 25.)
- Gary Younge, "Powell aides go public on rift with Bush. Chief of staff says secretary of state is fed up with apologising for the administration and is disdainful of 'ideological' hawks," Guardian/UK, May 6, 2004.
Also have to ask: Are the Vulcans going down in flames???? Powell is bailing rapidly, Condi has been branded with "liar, liar, pants on fire", Cheney is literally on the hot seat every which way but loose (whether he sees it or not) ... that leaves Ashcroft a sitting duck (Patriot Act or no Patriot Act) ...
I agree, AI. I think Powell has had an incredibly difficult time in this regime; he's been treated terribly; yet he's a man of his word, and a military officer who has an internal resistance to breaking rank. He may open up the floodgates as a civilian. His son, Michael, however appears to be without redeeming value.
Recommend separating out the categories of dissenters similar to that at Abu Ghraib (Additional SourceWatch Resources) .. particularly to identify those in the military on the Iraq issue. --AI
- For this article I'm hoping to avoid listing folks whose dissenting opinions are single issue. Dissent on the Iraq issue could be an apporpriate child of one of the invasion parent articles. --M
I moved this here because I don't think it makes any new point, adds to lacking affirmations, or otherwise contributes usefully to the article. I tried unsuccessfully to locate it in Georgeland also.
I'd like to keep the "Bush regime" article organized around the general initiatives of the administration; and not include an endless stream of responsive behaviors.
Perhaps Ariana's piece could form a basis for a SourceWatch article on something else. Or, start an article linked from the "blatant disregard for fact" phrase (or meme [now I understand *that* better :)]) in this article's lead?
"There's an old saying that when the facts are against you, argue the law. But the Bushies have gone one better: when the facts are against them, they argue the very existence of facts." --Arianna Huffington, The Huffington Post, August 3, 2005.
Proposed tidy
I am planning on overhauling this page over the next little while - at the moment it is more polemical and a bit of a mish-mash of scraps and links to numerous side articles.
I'll start on the main page, remove the dead links, unreferenced material and links to articles that were never created. Then I'll have a look at what from the main page and linked pages is useful referenced material and see whether it can be usefully consolidated into other existing articles. --Bob Burton 03:22, 2 August 2007 (EDT)
