The momentum for the work of the Friends of Science appears to come from conservative think thanks such as the Fraser Institute and its like-minded think tanks in the United States that receive funding from ExxonMobil, described in its corporate reports simply as "climate change'. [[1]]

Oct. 2002 press conference

I've made what I trust are straightforward edits. There appears to be no direct connection between the founding Friends of Science, and the 2002 press conference in Ottawa entitled "Kyoto's Flaws Revealed" organized by Tom Harris of APCO Worldwide. I therefore don't see the relevance of those links. I have replaced them with a link to the original FoS website. If there is any other mention of FoS in 2002, that link should be added - I haven't found any so far.

Also, APCO is not mentioned in the Globe and Mail article on FoS, and there is no documented involvement of APCO in the inception of FoS in 2002, so the phrase "organized by APCO" can not be justified. APCO was involved in the relaunch of FoS in 2005, but there is no direct evidence of involvement before then that I know of.

Founding (APCO) and other changes

Based on e-mail exchange with Charles Montgomery (G+M article writer), I have re-instated what is known about APCO and Tom Harris involvement in FoS founding. Also added 2005-2006 radio ad campaign (during election!) and upcoming climate change conference, both funded by Scientific Education Fund (U of C/Calgary Foundation). --Daveclarke 12:05, 15 February 2007 (EST)

Funding changes

I felt it better to quote directly from the G+M article rather than the Liberal party source, as it might seem less-biased and is the actual source in any event. Also, Jim Peterson got some details wrong (e.g. there's no direct evidence that Albert Jacobs was a prime mover at the founding of FoS; he was not even one of the original directors). I hope this is OK with everyone.

But the Liberals, especially on Mark Holland's site, have a lot of good material on the political connections between climate skeptics and the Conservatives, and some more of that might work on the Lobbyists/Political Connections section. --Daveclarke 13:45, 24 February 2007 (EST)

I reverted AI's revert as the original reference link no longer works on the DeSmogBlog site, so their post has been taken down.
