KHANIM RAHIM LATIF PROGRAMME MANAGER ASUDA, COMBATING VIOLENCE AGIANTS WOMEN SULAYMANIYAM IRAQ

Khanim was born in 1969 in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, graduate of Institute of Administration. Currently works as Programme Manager of Asuda, and NGO based in Sulaymaniyah and works to combat violence against women since 2 February 2001 and also founder of Asuda Women Shelter in 2002. She published several booklets and books such as “consequences of violence against women”. Translated into Kurdish several international conventions and documents on women’s rights such as CEDAW. Participated in many regional and international conferences such as a Conference on Women and Political Participation held in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq 2003, Women Capacity Building Workshop, Amman 2003 organized by the World Bank, Unifem and Women Waging Peace and Women for Women International (Independent Iraqi Women) Conference in Baghdad, 2004 organized by (Independent Iraqi Women), Women's Participation in Workforce held in Sulaymaniyah, 2004 organized by KEDO, Iraqi Women's strike together with many of Iraqi Women NGOs in Baghdad 2004 against Iraqi Governing Council [IGC]s Resolution no. 137 regarding Iraqi Personal Status Codes, “Role of Women and Economic Development” conference in Erbil, Workshop on capacity building for women NGOs organized by Counterpart International held in Erbil 200, met with Amnesty International in Beirut in 2004 on Violence against Women and honor killing, Attend International Conference on Patriarchal Violence against Women organized by the Swedish Government 2003, Stockholm. Khanim was selected as candidate for Iraqi national assembly elections as an independent candidate for 2005 elections. She attended many of the countrywide conferences, workshops and symposiums on women in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities. Khanim participated in awareness campaign for women on participation of women in election. She also participated in campaigning for endorsing 25% quota for women participation in the future legislative authorities in Iraq/National Assembly. Attended Beirut Seminar on Rehabilitation from Violence Trauma organized by Heinrich-Boell Foundation, 2005. Participated in the Seventh International Conference of the Arab Women’s Solidarity Association “Creativity, Dissidence and Women” Cairo, May 2005. Prior to Asuda, Khanim worked for other institutions, NGOs and international organizations such as: UNDP as Administrative Assistant 2000, UNICEF as Administrator in 1998, NGO QANDIL as Administrative Assistance in 1997.
