This article should [probably] be made less Dean/Democrat centric. Today, almost every political candidate, statewide, congressional district, even house district, and state district, probably even county and municipal, candidates have "meet-ups" at meetup.com

A good background and history article would be excellent.

Meetup is now closely connected with http://www.capitoladvantage.com another useful, and apparently successful, Internet activism operation; though it could be their merger (I've no evidence or confidence that there has been a formal merger) which provides fundamental support for MeetUp's expenses.
