Every year at the time of the anniversary of the US-Iraq war a silly story appears in the media to deflect US public attention. Last year it was Terry Sciavo; this year a "massive air assault" -- and the Bush regime thinks that the US public will not dare criticize in the midst of a major military operation... Propaganda, yes, but the key seems to be the anniversary of the war. This operation will soon fade into the abckground during the coming week.

It is clear that as part of the marketing of military operations, a fancy name is given to them. The discussion of this operation should fall under a larger rubric -- "fancy operation names".
