Talk:Pat Robertson
Mining interests
I had hoped to find in your description of this seemy character some details about his mining interests in Congo. I read in the past that he has large intersts in gold mines there along with investments there in other mineral extraction businesses. ... I hope that you will be able to include details on this in the future ...

Marilyn, I have added one reference from a 1999 article by Greg Palast. There was also a series of four articles on the topic by Colbert King in the Washington Post that I can't find easily online. More material on this topic you can easily add yourself -- it is no technically harder that what you have done above -- if you are uncertain about adding material to the main pages you can have a look on the help pages -- or if you still need help post a note on the relevant talk page and we'll respond ASAP. And yes - that Pat Robertson page needs a bit of tidying up. with thanks -- bob
There were no references supporting the claim that Robertson didn't receive a law degree etc A bio on his website states "Robertson received a juris doctor degree from Yale University Law School in 1955". [1]. In the absence of evidence to the contrary better to revert. --Bob Burton 20:13, 10 Nov 2004 (EST)
I moved these comments to the talk apge because they aren't cited, and are of thet sort that most definetly need to be cited.
[The division was in combat; Robertson wasn't.--Ed.]
, in spite of the fact that his book, The New World Order, recycled many discredited anti-Jewish slurs, such as the claim that the Rothschilds had Lincoln assassinated.
anybody have this citation handy?
a short time ago, i heard that Robertson actually blamed Gays and Lesbians for abortion. I guess Pat's dad never got around to that birds and bees story that he always promised he would. Does anybody have a citation for it? --Hugh Manatee 23:36, 23 Aug 2005 (EDT)
I should have figured that Brock wou;ld have it:
Robertson: Gays and lesbians are "self-absorbed narcissists" responsible for no-fault divorce and abortion
- Pat Robertson, 700 Club host and founder of the Christian Coalition of America, called gays and lesbians "self-absorbed narcissists who are willing to destroy any institution so long as they can have affirmation of their lifestyle." Robertson attributed the legalization of no-fault divorce and abortion to gays and lesbians, adding, "now they want to destroy marriage."
- From the August 16 edition of the Christian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club:
- ROBERTSON: I had interviewed a lady who was a sociologist who says "I am a lesbian," but she described homosexuality in this term, she said, "They are self-absorbed narcissists." I want you to put that down -- self-absorbed narcissists who are willing to destroy any institution so long as they can have affirmation of their lifestyle. You go back to the various laws that took away the difficulty of getting a divorce, and the people leading the charge were homosexuals, way back in the '70s. So we have no-fault divorce. Who are leading the charge for abortions? So often, you'll find people who are lesbians leading the fight for the destruction of human life. Now they want to destroy marriage.
- The first no-fault divorce law in the nationPDF file was signed in California in 1969 by Gov. Ronald Reagan.

Didn't Robertson say that AIDS was God's punishment of homosexuals?
I found this list of quotes attributed to Robertson. While many of the quotes are dated and location stated they aren't hotlinked so checking their accuracy and context will take a bit of work. --Bob Burton 19:52, 24 Aug 2005 (EDT)

Pat Robertson:
Pat Robertson/ Anti-Gay: When lawlessness is abroad in the land, the same thing will happen here that happened in Nazi Germany. Many of those people involved in Adolph Hitler were Satanists, many of them were homosexuals -- the two things seem to go together." -- Pat Robertson, The 700 Club, (01/21/93).
"Many observers say that AIDS is the hammer and gun of the homosexual movement, an effective vehicle to propel the homosexual agenda throughout every phase of our society." -- Pat Robertson, The 700 Club (06/20/90)
"It's one thing to say, 'We have rights to jobs...we have rights to be left alone in out little corner of the world to do our thing.' It's an entirely different thing to say, well, 'We're not only going to go into the schools and we're going to take your children and your grandchildren and turn them into homosexuals.' Now that's wrong." -- Pat Robertson, The 700 Club (09/17/92).
"I am absolutely persuaded one of the reasons so many lesbians are at the forefront of the pro-choice movement is because being a mother is the unique characteristic of womanhood, and these lesbians will never be mothers naturally, so they don't want anybody else to have that privilege either." -- Pat Robertson, The 700 Club (05/28/93).
"I have known few homosexuals who did not practice their tendencies. Such people are sinning against God and will lead to the ultimate destruction of the family and our nation. I am unalterably opposed to such things, and will do everything I can to restrict the freedom of these people to spread their contagious infection to the youth of our nation." -- Pat Robertson (05/24/94)
Pat Robertson/ Anti-Clinton: "The president is the leader of the country. He is supposed to be the role model for every human being in this nation. We set him on a pedestal, maybe beyond what we should. But you don't expect the President to be a sleazy liar." -- Pat Robertson, The 700 Club (12/23/93).
"[T]hese socialists and they're in there now, starting with the President and his associates...they want to squeeze out religion because if people read the Bible, they can't be enslaved. You'll never have a socialist government where everybody's Christian." -- Pat Robertson, The 700 Club (02/18/94)
Jesus is a capitalist? Does Pat ever actually read the Bible?--Hugh Manatee 01:30, 25 Aug 2005 (EDT) |
Matthew 1:16-23 ...Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he(Jesus) said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. The same is also mirrored at:

"God and morality, the Clinton administration wants out of the country." -- Pat Robertson, The 700 Club (12/23/93.
Pat Robertson/ Anti-Women: "These girls are not stupid. If you want to pay them five hundred, six hundred, seven hundred, eight hundred dollars a month, or whatever it is, to have a baby, they'll have babies. And if they'll stop paying them, they'll stop having babies. It's that simple. It's not heartless, it's not cruel, it's an intelligent use of money." -- Pat Robertson, The 700 Club (08/07/95)
Pat Robertson/ Racist/Bigot. "Individual Christians are the only ones really---and Jewish people, those who trust God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob--are the only ones that are qualified to have the reign, because hopefully, they will be governed by God and submit to Him."--Pat Robertson, defending his stance that only Christians and Jews are fit to hold public office, The 700 Club, 01/11/85.
"I never said that in my life...I never said only Christians and Jews. I never said that." --Pat Robertson, Time magazine, when confronted regarding his statement on The 700 Club on 01/11/85.
"I think patriotism, love of God, love of country, support of the traditional family. They <<Christians>> believe it would be good for our country if families were closer together...I think they feel about them more strongly than others do." --Pat Robertson, when asked if there are some issues Christians feel more strongly about that non-Christians, speaking at a rally in Lansing Michigan, 1986.
Pat Robertson/ Violent: "If Christian people work together, they can succeed during this decade in winning back control of the institutions that have been taken from them over the past 70 years. Expect confrontations that will be not only unpleasant but at times physically bloody...This decade will not be for the faint of heart, but the resolute. Institutions will be plunged into wrenching change. We will be living through one of the most tumultuous periods of human history. When it is over, I am convinced God's people will emerge victorious." -- Pat Robertson's Perspective (Oct/Nov 1992)
"If the Christian people work together, they can succeed during this decade in winning back control of the institutions that have been taken from them over the past 70 years. Expect confrontations that will be not only unpleasant but at times physically bloody..."--Pat Robertson, Pat Robertson's Perspective, October, November 1992.
"We at the Christian Coalition are raising an army who cares. We are training people to be effective--to be elected to school boards, to city councils, to state legislatures, and to key positions in political parties...By the end of this decade, if we work and give and organize and train, THE CHRISTIAN COALITION WILL BE THE MOST POWERFUL POLITICAL ORGANIZATION IN AMERICA." --Pat Robertson in a fundraising letter, 07/04/91.
Pat Robertson, "Hate the Sin, Lover the Sinner." "You say you're supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and the Methodists and this, that, and the other thing. Nonsense! I don't have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist. I can love the people who hold false opinions, but I don't have to be nice to them." -- Pat Robertson, The 700 Club, 01/14/91.
Pat Robertson on Cults. "A cult is any group that has a form of godliness, but does not recognize Jesus Christ as the unique son of God."....."One test of a cult is that it often does not strictly teach that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God who HImself is God manifested in the flesh."......"Christian-oriented cults include the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons), the Worldwide Church of God, Christian Science, Unity, Unitarianism, The Way International, Rosicrucian Society of America, Bahai, Hare Krishna, Scientology, the Unification Church, and the Jehovah's Witnesses."--CBN pamphlet entitled "Cults," dated 1992.
Pat Robertson/ Presidential Yearnings? "There is only one job in the United States and the world, I suppose, that would give me anymore opportunity to do good for my fellow man. That would be the presidency." (T.R. Reid, "Robertson's Honesty to Go on Trial,"Washington Post, 09/11/87)
"We have enough votes to run the country. And when the people say, 'We've had enough,' we are going to take over." (April 1980 "Washington for Jesus" rally)
"Of course, you always have to consider what the Lord wants. If He were to say, 'Run for president,' then obviously any man of God would have to obey. The whole thing would depend on what He wanted." --Pat Robertson (Interview with the Saturday Evening Post, March 1985)
(Note: God apparently talks to Pat often, and often God tells Pat to do what Pat actually wanted to do in the first place. For instance, when Pat was struggling to get his radio station on the air, he considered buying the cheapest transmitter on the market, but God would have none of it, going so far as to recommend radio equipment by brand names: " 'Pat, I want you to have an RCA transmitter,' God insisted."--Pat Robertson (Robertson and Buckingham, Shout it From the Housetops, page 18).
"If by September 17, 1987, one year from today, three million registered voters have signed petitions telling me that they will pray, that theywill work, that they will give toward my election, then I will run." -- Pat Robertson (September 1986 rally, where Robertson laid the groundwork for his presidential campaign.)
"Robertson called the meeting of the Freedom Council <<Robertson-founded political group for born-again Christians>> for their wise counsel and understanding and experience regarding whether or not he should consider running for president." Jerry R. Curry, retired military officer, member of the Freedom Council ("Robertson, Religious Right Discuss 1988 Run for the Whitehouse," Church and State, January 1986.)
"Of course, I've heard of that rumor before; I don't live in a vacuum, but I've never taken it seriously. Good heavens, I've got the best job in the world right now. I would be crazy to want to change it. I enjoy what I do--and I love it---and on top of that, I'm serving the Lord." -- Pat Robertson, coyly discussing rumors about his run for presidency of the United States, "Robertson, Religious Right Discuss 1988 Run for the Whitehouse," Church and State, January 1986)
"What is God's will for me in this? Let me assure you I know God's will for me." --Pat Robertson, claiming divine sanction for his presidential campaign, September 1986 rally.
"This is where God wanted me to be...Here I am in New Hampshire, before a major primary. I assure you that I am going to be the next president of the United States." --Pat Robertson, speaking at a fundamentalist church in New Hampshire, February 1988.
"I had everything you could ask for, but God had something else for me to do. I heaRd the Lord saying, 'I have something else for you to do. I want you to run for president of the United States.' "--Pat Robertson, mid-1980s.
"I didn't think that the One who has never failed me was going to fail me now."--Pat Robertson, following his early success in the Iowa primary.
"If this is not the one, I'll be back four years later." --Pat Robertson, following his pathetic showing at the Super Tuesday presidential election primaries.
"There is an enterprise the Lord set me on a year or so ago--running for president of the United States. Out of what seems to be defeat, we are laying the foundation for a great victory for this nation. It may not be in 1988...but I am not going to quit....I will run again in 1992. That is His plan for me and for this nation." --Pat Robertson, speaking at a fundamentalist church in Denver, 04/03/88.
Pat Robertson/ Separation of Church and State/ Above the Law. "A Supreme Court ruling is not law." ..." A Supreme Court ruling is not the Law of the United States. The law of the United Sates is the Constitution, treaties made in accordance with the Constitution, and laws duly enacted by the Congress and signed by the president. And any of those things I would uphold totally with all of my strength, whether I agreed with them or not." .... "I am bound by the laws of the United States and all 50 states....<<but>> I am not bound by any case or any court to which I myself am not a party....I don't think the Congress of the United States is subservient to the courts....They can ignore a Supreme Court ruling if they so choose."--Pat Robertson, June 1986, when speaking before a group of writers from the Washington Post.
"Supreme Court decisions are binding in the court systems...but in terms of general law, which binds every citizen, why should you and I be bound because of the ineptitude, if you will, or the skill of one or more defense lawyers, or the plaintiffs in any particular lawsuit?"--Pat Robertson, The 700 Club, 10/23/87.
"They <<advocates of church-state separation>>scream, 'First Amendment.' Of course, the First Amendment, as you and I both know, is a restriction on Congress....So it really doesn't have anything to do with what you say or what I say, one way or the other."--Pat Robertson, whining about the Court's church-state decisions, The 700 Club, 12/10/90.
"There is never in the Constitution at any point, anything that applies that to the states, none at all. The Supreme Court has done it over repeated attempts by Congress which have been beaten back to do such a thing." --Pat Robertson, The 700 Club, 04/11/86.
Robertson links Sharon's Stroke to God's wrath
Unbelievable that Roertson can get away spewing egreggious Christian hersey, and still have so many bleivers in his divine enlightenment.
- NORFOLK, Va. Jan 5, 2006 — Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson suggested Thursday that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine punishment for "dividing God's land."
- "God considers this land to be his," Robertson said on his TV program "The 700 Club." "You read the Bible and he says `This is my land,' and for any prime minister of Israel who decides he is going to carve it up and give it away, God says, `No, this is mine.'"
- Sharon, who ordered Israel's withdrawal from Gaza last year, suffered a severe stroke on Wednesday.
- [. . .]
- He also said, however, that in the Bible, the prophet Joel "makes it very clear that God has enmity against those who 'divide my land.'"
- Sharon "was dividing God's land and I would say woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the EU (European Union), the United Nations, or the United States of America," Robertson said.
- In discussing what he said was God's insistence that Israel not be divided, Robertson also referred to the 1995 assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who had sought to achieve peace by giving land to the Palestinians. "It was a terrible thing that happened, but nevertheless he was dead," he said.

Another fine example of Modern Christianity's Janus face. The humans inside of their fences always feel the warm and fuzzy New Testament religion, while the demonstrative fire and brimstone Old Testament God is reserved soley for the outsiders. Joel was of course, a prophet of Israel, well before the time of Christ and His sermon on the Mount.
Joel 3:1-8:
For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem, I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land. And they have cast lots for my people; and have given a boy for an harlot, and sold a girl for wine, that they might drink. Yea, and what have ye to do with me, O Tyre, and Zidon, and all the coasts of Palestine? will ye render me a recompence? and if ye recompense me, swiftly and speedily will I return your recompence upon your own head; Because ye have taken my silver and my gold, and have carried into your temples my goodly pleasant things: The children also of Judah and the children of Jerusalem have ye sold unto the Grecians, that ye might remove them far from their border. Behold, I will raise them out of the place whither ye have sold them, and will return your recompence upon your own head: And I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the children of Judah, and they shall sell them to the Sabeans, to a people far off: for the LORD hath spoken it. |
This retribution from God came right after Israel had finished up on their punishment from God of forced nomadic aimlessness for 30 years lost in the Sinai Desert, unable to disccover a way out.
