Talk:Senate Centrist Coalition

The introduction of Senate Centrist Coalition as a redirect to Third Way is a good example to avoid, IMO. Although there are obvious crossovers between members of both groups, one does not immediately equate to being one and the same as the other. The extent of the influence of the SCC was lost in the process; likewise, expanding on the identity, origin, and mission of the SCC led to the discovery of another centrist group, the House Centrist Coalition, which has escaped discussion to date (at least here in SW). The SCC lost steam after its creation in 1995, particularly following the demise of John Chafee, but regained momentum early in 2001 with the launch of the Bush regime and tax cuts, which drew scepticism from SCC affiliates. It would appear from news releases and other accounts that the group lost steam again after 9/11 and gained some momentum following the U.S. presidential election, 2004, particularly on the matter of Social Security. This is a very powerful group within the Senate, and perhaps the HCC is equally powerful in the House, which will be determined by further research. Artificial Intelligence 09:19, 13 May 2005 (EDT)

Actually, it was redirected to Third Way Foundation which I am pretty sure is the name of the organization which does the financial side of things concerning the Senate Centrist Coalition. There's good stuff on this page now though, I don't want to change it, but it is really confusing as to the nature of the organizations. Third Way Foundation has got to be related somehow.

What I want to know for sure (and can't seem to figure it out) is the following:

  • Is the Third Way Foundation the same thing as the Senate Centrist Coalition? If not, are they related, and if so, how?
  • Is www.third-way.com the Senate Centrist Coalition website? or the Third Way Foundation website? Or still another project of one and/or the other?

One means of differentiation between the Senate Centrist Coalition and the Third Way organization is that all of the co-chairs of Third Way are Democrats and the Coalition is bipartisan. Also, although both groups are comprised by "centrists", Third Way calls itself progressive centrist ... Artificial Intelligence 10:32, 15 May 2005 (EDT)
