Background on Plant

PPN Power owns and operates a 330 MW gas- and naphtha-fired, combined cycle power plant at villages Pillaiperumalnallur and Manickapangu. The plant has been in operation since April 2001.

In December 2014 PPN Power received a terms of reference toward conducting an EIA for adding two coal-burning units of 160 MW each at the power station.

As of May 2017 the company's expansion plans only describe new gas-fired generation capacity. Plans to build coal-fired generating units appear to be abandoned.
