Tusk Trust "is a dynamic organisation, which has 18 years experience initiating and funding conservation and community development programmes right across Africa. Supported by UK celebrities such as Rory Bremner, Ronnie Wood, Griff Rhys Jones, Joanna Lumley, Ruby Wax, Zoe Ball, Ben Fogle and Alistair McGowan, the charity’s work to deliver direct sustainable conservation has been widely covered on television and in the media. In 2005 Prince William became the charity’s Royal Patron.

"Since its formation in 1990 by Charles Mayhew MBE and Sir Timothy Ackroyd Bt., Tusk has earned a reputation for being non-bureaucratic and for maximising donor funds (on average 85% of net funds) reaching the field. The charity has supported more than 100 projects and invested over £9 million into the field.

"Tusk’s current portfolio of 40 field projects spread across 17 African countries is designed not only to protect wildlife, particularly endangered species, but to help alleviate poverty and encourage sustainable development and education amongst many poor rural communities who live alongside wildlife." [1]

"We were lucky to have the support of an enthusiastic board of Trustees, which was expertly chaired from 1990 to 2005 by Sir Christopher Lever. Tragically two of our co-founders, Sir Kenneth Kleinwort and Harry, the Duke of Northumberland, died too early in the charity’s history to witness how Tusk has since flourished. " [1]

Tusk Conservation Awards

Developed by Tusk Trust in partnership with Investec Asset Management. "The Tusk Conservation Awards are made possible through the generous support of the co-sponsors Land Rover, ISPS Handa Foundation, The Mantis Group, Moët & Chandon and Spectrecom Films." [2] "The 2017 Tusk Award finalists were recognised at a gala ceremony in Cape Town on the 4th of October, hosted by Derek Watts, presenter of Carte Blanche, South Africa’s longest running investigative journalism television programme. We are extremely honoured that three of the country’s most eminent public figures – Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, former First Lady, Mrs Graça Machel, and former President F W de Klerk – presented the awards on behalf of Tusk’s Royal Patron, HRH The Duke of Cambridge."
