Uskmouth power station

The coal plant stopped producing power in 2017, and the plant is being converted to run on waste, starting in 2020.

Background
Uskmouth A
Uskmouth A power station was built in 1962.[1] It was closed on 26 October 1981, with a generating capacity of 228 MW.[2]
Uskmouth B
The 3 x 120 MW Uskmouth B subcritical plant power station was commissioned in 1959.[3][4][5]
Uskmouth B was earmarked for closure in 2014 and subsequently mothballed.[6] However, in 2015, plans were announced to instead convert the station to run fully on biomass.[7] These plans have since taken priority and as a result, Uskmouth has seen very infrequent use as a coal plant, with April 2017 being the last occasion.[8][9]
In June 2015, the power station was acquired by SIMEC Group and with a proposal to convert it to produce electricity from bio-mass.[10] In 2017, Atlantis Energy joined a partnership to undertake this transformation by 2020.[11]
In November 2018 SIMEC Atlantis Energy announced plans to convert its Uskmouth plant from coal-fired to energy pellets produced from non-recyclable waste. The conversion is expected to complete within 18 months, with first production planned to begin in the fourth quarter of 2020.[12]
