Background on Plant

The plant's first two units, units 1-2, were brought online in 1994 and retired in 2007. The two existing coal-fired units of Huaneng Wuhai Haibowan power station, Units 3-4 totaling 400 MW, were brought online in 2005. Units 5-6 of 330 MW each began operating in 2007. The plant is owned by China Huaneng.[1][2]

Description of Expansion

Huaneng is planning to add an additional 600 MW (Units 7 & 8 of 300 MW each).[3][4]

2016: Nationwide Restrictions Imposed on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity

Due to new restrictions announced during 2016 by the National Energy Administration and the National Development and Reform Commission, further capacity expansions at this location appear to be on hold or cancelled.
