Background
Paras power station is an existing 562.5 megawatt (MW) coal plant in Nasik village, 6 km north of Balapur, Maharashtra state, India. The plant is operated by Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (Mahagenco). It consists of five units:[1] It is a subcritical plant.
- Unit 1 - 30 MW - 1961 (decommissioned 1991)
- Unit 2 - 62.5 MW - 1967
- Unit 3 - 250 MW - 2007
- Unit 4 - 250 MW - 2010
660 MW Expansion
Mahagenco is planning to install a 660 MW supercritical unit at the same location as the existing plant. Water for the project is in advanced stage of finalization. The project has been assured supply of coal from Mahanadi coal blocks by MahaGuj Collieries.[2]
