{{#badges: tobaccowiki}} Ernest L. Abel, Ph.D. is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Psychology at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He was Deputy Director of the Research Institute on Alcoholism in Buffalo, and Director of the C.S. Mott Center for Human Growth/Development in Detroit. He is past president of the Behavioral Teratology Society and past president of the Fetal Alcohol Study Group. He served as an expert in Mississippi's case.
Abel prepared a December, 1982 comprehensive list of the scientific and popular literature on the effects of smoking on sexuality and reproductive functioning in humans and animals. Materials dealing with sexual behavior, sexual function, and sexual physiology were included, and those dealing with tobacco's effects on the fetus and newborn child received the most emphasis. The introduction provided an overview of then-current findings concerning the relationship between reproductive functioning and smoking, as well as a guide to further reading.
Abel was a Research Scientist at the Research Insthute on Alcoholism in Buffalo, New York, in the 1980s. He prepared several bibliographies on health-related subjects, including A Com rehensive Guide to the Cannabis Literature (Greenwood Press, 1979), Alcohol and Reproduction (Greenwood Press, 1982), and Alcohol and the Elderly (Greenwood Press, 1980), with Grace M. Barnes. His articles have been published in Science, Nature, and Neurobehavioral Teratology.[1]

Dr. Abel has a Ph.D. and was the Director of the C.S. Mott Center for Human Growth and Development and a Professor of Obstetrics/Gynecology and Psychology at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. His office is located at C.S. Mott Center, 275 E. [2] He has also been used as an expert in cases involving Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. He is the author of 44 books, including Marihuana, The First Twelve Thousand Years, Fetal Alcohol Abuse Syndrome and several hundred articles in scientific and popular magazines.
