{{#Badges: CoalSwarm}} Somerville Central Mine is a surface mine in Gibson County near Oakland City, Indiana, owned by Peabody Energy. Opened in 2000, the mine has steadily increased coal production and employment. Its workforce of nearly 185 people operate the mine seven days a week year-round. In 2008, approximately 3.4 million tons of coal were shipped to the mine's customers.[1]

Peabody also owns the Somerville South and Somerville North mines, both part of the Somerville Mining Complex in the same area as Somerville Central.
