Opened in 2000, the mine has steadily increased coal production and employment. Its workforce of nearly 185 people operate the mine seven days a week year-round. In 2008, approximately 3.4 million tons of coal were shipped to the mine's customers.[1]
Peabody also owns the Somerville South and Somerville North mines, both part of the Somerville Mining Complex in the same area as Somerville Central.
