Hans Mende is the founder of the AMCI Group, a company which invests in minerals and energy projects. AMCI is currently embroiled in controversy over its proposal to establish the Vasse Coal Project, a new coal mine near Margaret River in Western Australia.

Background

A biographical note states that Mende "co-founded American Metals & Coal International, Inc.(AMCI) in 1986 and has been its Chief Operating Officer and President since 1986. Mr Mende worked with the Thyssen Group, one of the largest German multinational companies with interests in steel making and general heavy industrial production from 1968 to 1986. He served as President of Thyssen Group. He has experience in coal mine development and coal marketing. Mr. Mende has been a Director of Felix Resources since October 29, 2007. He has been Director of ANR Holdings since March 2003 and Quintana Maritime Ltd., since April 2005. He serves as a Director of MMX Mineracao E Metalicos SA, OKD in the Czech Republic, AMCI Australia and Whitehaven Pty Ltd. in Australia. Mr. Mende holds an MBA from Cologne University in Germany in 1967. " [1]
