Shahapur Thermal Power Project is a 1200-1800 megawatt (MW) coal-fired power station being developed by Maharashtra Energy Generation Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Power. In 2006 MEGL sought tender bids for the development of two identical super-critical coal units "in the range of 1200-1800 MW". These would supplement a 1400MW gas-fired plant which is being developed as phase 1 of the project.[1][2]
The current status of the coal-fired units is unclear. On its website, Reliance Power refers to the Shahapur project only as a 4,000MW gas project.[3]
