The Port Kembla Coal Terminal (PKCT) is a key coal exporting facility on Australia’s east coast, 72 km south of Sydney. It services two of the nation’s richest coal reserves, the Southern and Western coalfields of New South Wales, exporting coking and steaming coal around the world.[1]
PKCT is managed by BHP Billiton on behalf of a consortium of coal companies comprising Illawarra Coal, Centennial Coal, Xstrata Coal, Tahmoor Coal, Peabody and Gujarat NRE.[2] The terminal has a capacity of 15 million tonnes per annum but exports approximately 10 to 11 million tonnes a year.[3]
