Background
Latur power station is a proposed 1500 megawatt (MW) coal plant in Maharashtra state, India.[1] The project is sponsored by Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (Mahagenco). According to a November 2010 company presentation, the project was in the "planning and engineering" phase and is scheduled for operation in late 2016.[1] As of April 2014, Mahagenco lists the project as target for 2017-2018 and describes the status as follows: "Subject to availability of fuel. Land acquisition and other tie-ups in progress."[2]
