Abakan power station is a 406-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power station in the Republic of Khakassia, an autonomous republic within Russia.

Location

Background on Plant
The existing Abakan Combined Heat & Power (CHP) Plant is a three-unit, 270-MW coal-fired power plant near Abakan, the capital of the autonomous Republic of Khakassia. It is currently owned by the Siberian Generating Company. It is the largest power plant in Khakassia.[1] The three units were completed in 1982-85.[2]
In March 2019 one of the plant's boilers caught fire. No deaths or injuries were reported.[3]
In June 2019 it was reported that four of the oldest boiler houses within the plant would be closed in 2019.[4]
Description of Expansion
TGC-13 recently built a $300 million, 136-MW fourth coal-fired unit at the Abakan plant.[1] The foundation of the new unit was completed in February 2012.[5] The new unit went online in September 2014.[6]
