Alan K Armitage was a Philip Morris and general tobacco industry consultant in Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology, He ran his own business from Knaresborough, North Yorkshire in the UK.

He was a prominent member of the cabal of scientists and academics which took money from the tobacco industry to provide witness services, do pseudo research, and to establish fake scientific associations of so-called experts to provide some sort of cover for those dissembling the environmental and health aspect of passive smoking (known as Environmental Tobacco Smoke or ETS)

Armitage was listed as a member of three of these pseudo-science associations, ARIA (Associates for Research into Indoor Air) in the UK, EGIL (Swedish for Experts Group on Indoor Air) which operated in Scandinavia, and IAI (Indoor Air International) which purported to be a global umbrella organisation on indoor air quality (IAQ) These were all funded and run by tobacco industry staff and their lackies.
