Alan F. Schatzberg, M.D., is the Kenneth T. Norris, Jr. Professor and Chairman, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University.[1]
In June of 2008, Senator Charles Grassley noted that Dr. Schatzberg had revealed to the Senate Finance Committee that he had more than $100,000 invested in Corcept Therapeutics, a company that Dr. Schatzberg founded to apply for FDA approval for the drug mifepristone to treat depression. Dr. Schatzberg had also received grants from the National Institutes of Health to study mifepristone. Senator Grassley disclosed that Dr. Schatzberg actually had $6 million invested in Corcept.[2] Dr. Schatzberg was later removed from the grant.[3] [4]
